“Back-to-School Parenting”

I didn’t have the best high school experience. I often felt bored and unchallenged in my classes. I wasn’t involved in clubs or sports, and while I was in the band until my senior year, that was about it. If I had to rate it, I’d give it 2 stars—not something I’d recommend. It wasn’t until college that I really started to enjoy learning; the environment was much more suited to my style.

Now, as I send my own kids off to school, I’m intentional about letting their experiences be their own. I don’t project my views or feelings about my high school days onto them. It’s crucial to help our children shape their lives based on their own experiences, with a bit of guidance from us, of course. Take a moment to read this article on how to send kids back to school without letting our own fears, worries, anxieties, or memories color their first day and the weeks leading up to it.
