ChatGPT
.
ChatGPT is AI (artificial intelligence) that “interacts in a conversational way”. It was open to the public in November of 2022. A friend shared this video with me that introduced me to the concept. Take a minute and watch it. I wanted to try it and see how it works so I created an account and got started. The best way for me to explain ChatGPT to you is to have ChatGPT tell you about itself.
I logged in and typed: “Explain chatgpt in 50 words at a 3rd grade level”
Here is the response
“ChatGPT is a computer program that can talk and write like a person. It uses special techniques to understand and respond to questions. People can ask ChatGPT about many things and it will try to give a helpful answer.”
I reworded my command: “explain chatgpt at a college doctoral level in 50 words”
Response: “ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art, transformer-based language model developed by OpenAI, trained on a massive corpus of diverse text data. It utilizes deep learning techniques and generates human-like text based on its understanding of context and patterns in the input provided to it. ChatGPT has demonstrated remarkable language generation capabilities, making it a highly sought-after tool in NLP research.”
Here is an example of something more fun that I asked it to do.
My command: “write a 50 word story about Darth Vader trying to order pizza”
Response: “Darth Vader, the infamous Sith Lord, tried to place a pizza order, but his mechanical voice caused confusion with the delivery worker. Frustrated, he ultimately settled for just a plain cheese pie, uttering “I find your lack of flavor disturbing.” as he hung up the phone.”
Then I wanted to see some of it’s other capabilities. In 2014, I wrote a book titled Champagne Alley: Tammee. I went to Amazon and copied the blurb from the back of the book and asked ChatGPT to write a follow up blurb. You can see the picture of what it produced.

At the bottom of the picture you will see “Regenerate response”. If I didn’t like what the first response, I can click that, it will give me a new version.
To end this blog, I wanted to give you a list of the top 5 potential abuses of ChatGPT. So I asked it to produce those for me. Here they are.
My command: “What are the top 5 potential abuses of chatgpt”
1- Misinformation: ChatGPT can be used to spread false or misleading information, potentially causing harm to individuals or groups.
2- Privacy Invasion: ChatGPT can be trained on personal data to generate private information, potentially violating individual privacy.
3- Bias Amplification: ChatGPT can amplify biases in the training data, leading to discrimination or unequal treatment of certain groups.
4- Manipulation and Persuasion: ChatGPT can be used to manipulate or persuade individuals, potentially leading to unethical outcomes.
5- Cyberbullying: ChatGPT can be used to harass or bully individuals, causing emotional harm and potentially leading to more severe consequences.
