Texas Tackled Digital Indecent Exposure

Laws move more slowly than technology development and adaptation of human behaviors connected to that technology.  Texas just took a massive step forward in trying to catch-up. Take a look at how this new bill will work:

Real world example

If you were walking with your 16 year old daughter down the sidewalk and a man approached and exposed himself, you would be very upset and you would call the police. Hopefully, he would be arrested and the legal system would take over. Public exposure is against the law and likely be traumatizing for your daughter.

Digital world example

I was once doing therapy with a 16 year old girl. She was talking in my office. She got a notification on her phone. She looked at it, shook her head and turned back to me. I asked why she shook her head. She said, “someone just sent me a dick pic.” I asked who it was and she said, “I don’t know, I get them all the time.”This new law in Texas will make the digital exposure illegal and punishable just like the law is for real-life exposure. I hope others states follow this lead and adopt the law.
