“Michigan Teen Latest Casualty of Sextortion”
Do you know what sextortion is? How could it impact your child? Dr. Justin Patchin and Dr. Sameer Hinduja at the Cyberbullying Research Center define sextortion as “the threatened dissemination of explicit, intimate, or embarrassing images of a sexual nature without consent, usually for the purpose of procuring additional images, sexual acts, money, or something else.”
The picture is seventeen-year-old Jordan DeMay who was a victim of sextortion. His story is a tragic example of a recent case of sextortion. Dr. Patchin put together a very informative blog post about what sextortion is, how common it is and what’s next around educating ourselves and our youth about how to handle this behavior of the digital world. Please take a minute and read this blog post.
