Making Friends The Old Fashion Way

I recently spoke with a high school student about one of her school organizations, and she mentioned how much she loves their no-phone policy during events. She enjoys it because it forces them to talk and build real friendships. Part of me felt sad for her generation, as they don’t have the same screen-free opportunities we had growing up to practice face-to-face communication. But technology isn’t going away, so we need to be intentional about creating those moments. Try having friends drop their phones in a basket when they come over. Let’s foster spaces where kids can build real social skills. I found an article discussing the behavioral and developmental challenges kids face due to excessive screen time. Let’s be mindful of their development—trust me, they’ll thank us later.
